The State Library’s old Queen’s Hall will soon be reopened as a public reading space for the first time since 2003. The hall originally opened on Queen Victoria’s birthday — May 24, 1859 — three years after the State Library was established.
The room will receive a complete makeover as part of an $83 million refurbishment of the library, which is being funded by the State Government ($55 million) and philanthropic contributions ($28 million).
The works are set to begin in 2017 and are expected to take four years.
